Organize your life ... digitally!
4/18/2003 5:00 AM
By: Michael Garfield, High Tech Texan

In today's world, so many of us have schedules packed with things to do.

If you're looking for a better way to organize all your to-do lists and other work, there's a website that can help.

As someone who seems to live online, spending way too much time at my computers, I have tried different ways of keeping track of projects and various "to do" lists.

From email messages to Word documents to Post-it Notes, I have tried them all. I like to use Microsoft's Outlook program, but I also like the freedom of not being tied into a closed system.

I am always looking for open, and, more importantly, free ways to do my work.

And I think I found it with OnlineHomeBase.com. It does something different. Think of it as a web-based note-taking system.

Once you set up a free account, you can create "sheets" that allow you to jot your thoughts on cyber paper. You can add, delete and edit the sheets and, using the "collaborate" feature, share the sheet with others, choosing whether they can just read the sheet or whether they can edit it. All they need is web access.

From home projects (even things like grocery lists) to work-related projects, this Web service lets you keep track of anything. I even use it to discuss story ideas with my producer. We share thoughts on news stories, Web links and notes on these virtual sheets of paper.

A neat feature with OnlineHomeBase is the ability to instantly set reminders that can be sent to your email address or even your cell phone using text messages.

You can also use it to easily create your own online collection of bookmarks, if you use more than one computer. You can click and drag URLs directly on to a sheet and then whenever you get online, you will have your favorite links handy.

One feature that the service doesn't have yet is the ability to synchronize the sheets with a PDA or Outlook. But the company is working on this.

I do recommend you try OnlineHomeBase the next time you have tasks to track. Start simple. Once you get the hang of it, you will find it to be a useful service that will simplify your online life.

The sign controversy has erupted all over again. This time, Star Storage isn't being allowed to put up patriotic signs. What do you think?
The patriotic signs should be allowed.
I back the city's position.
I'm not sure which side I support.
