What is unique about OnlineHomeBase?

OnlineHomeBase is not unique in that it lets you store notes and text information online. Other Web-based services like notepad.yahoo.com do that, too. OnlineHomeBase is not unique in that it lets you set up email reminders online either. Services like iPing.com can also do that. What makes OnlineHomeBase different from other services is that it enables users to create notes and reminders on the fly, beating the 10-Second Rule. The 10-Second Rule states that if it takes more than 10 seconds to jot down a note or create an email reminder, you'll often not jot and create... leading to a regret forget instead.

Where is the OnlineHomeBase server located?

OnlineHomeBase hosts its server with Rackspace.com, San Antonio, Tx, one of the largest data centers for Linux servers in the world. Rackspace is backed by prestigious VC like Sequoia capital with more than $27 million raised in funding.
San Antonio is an ideal location for the OnlineHomeBase server because of the absence of natural disasters. San Antonio is the most seismically stable soil in the US. In fact, San Antonio is one of only two places in the US that Lloyd's of London will underwrite for earthquake insurance. Additionally, the absence of hurricanes and tornadoes makes the San Antonio data center the perfect location for mission-critical data.

Take a virtual tour of the Rackspace Data Center in San Antonio hosting the OnlineHomeBase system.

How certain can I be that I will be able to retrieve my data when I need it? What if there is a power outage?

The OnlineHomeBase server is located in a world-class, secured data center with 3 levels of security, plenty of UPS backup power, a 750 kW generator and N+1 redundant HVAC systems. The center is Cisco-powered and has a 99.999% uptime guarantee. The power systems are designed to run uninterrupted even in the unlikely event of a total power outage. All servers are fed with conditioned UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) power that will run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant with instantaneous failover in case the primary UPS fails. In the event of an extended power outage, an on-site diesel generator can run indefinitely. The generator is regularly tested to ensure that it will continue to function in the event of an emergency.

How am I protected from losing the data I store on OnlineHomeBase?

OnlineHomeBase has taken multiple measures to fortify its system against break-ins. However, no system can be 100% break-in proof.

The OnlineHomeBase system generates a nightly backup of all data stored on its database. Backup copies are stored in multiple, disparate locations (San Antonio, Texas, and Miami, Florida). Even in the unlikely worst case of a total destruction of the OnlineHomeBase server, a backup system would be available with the previous day's data intact and available.

How secure is my data if a hacker gains access to the OnlineHomeBase database?

In the worst-case scenario of a hacker gaining access to the OnlineHomeBase database, any information contained in work sheets that you have encoded using OnlineHomeBase's ENCRYPT feature would be protected by Blowfish encryption, one of the strongest algorithms used for encryption of data. The content of unencrypted work-sheets could theoretically be read by an intruder. Keep this in mind when storing information on OnlineHomeBase. Use OnlineHomeBase's ENCRYPT feature for sensitive data. Please note that the OnlineHomeBase user agreement states that OnlineHomeBase cannot be held liable for data loss or data theft under any circumstances.
